My future business cards

This is my today's accomplishment (beyond cleaning the house)

I am preparing to make the move to Finland, and will be looking for ANY work. I thought it would be fun to make a set of business cards that each have a mini-resume for one 'profession'. These cards feature: years of experience, references, basic skills I have for this profession, and naturally my contact info.

Today's card is the gardener card. :)


And yes, the design is based on pokemon cards and I am making a set of 12 to start with - the back is a list of all the professions - from dog boarding to gallery assistant's job.

Dictionary Project

This seems to be quite a standard assignment in college for graphic design.

I was given the word 'pastiche' which means:

A work of art that intentionally imitates another artist's work. Unlike plagiarism and satire, pastiche is intended to be in flattering tribute of the original artist.

I based this piece on three were known and endlessly reproduced artists. I used a painting from Finnish painter Kaj Stenvall (who mainly paints ducks and is often thought - even if somewhat incorrectly as a painter of Donald Duck), Andy Warhall's piece on Marilyn Monroe, and Marilyn Monroe herself. (The word Pastiche on the lower right corner mimics Marilyn Monroe's signature.)



I liked doing this project. It was definitely a good practice. I have a little bit of a hard time with it as it stretches my comfort zones with copyright, but I have to say that what else can a good obedient student do when asked to do a piece on 'pastiche'? I can tell you that I spent hours and hours reformatting it, and that I would never have any intention of selling it.

The Busfareknits Packaging

Needless to say, this design is created by me. It is a part of 'The Busfare Knits Project', which I started to try to make back the money I spend for public transit. I print the packaging on regular copy paper in black and white to save money, but ideally it would be printed in color and on glossy card stock.



Here is the packaging on the product. I stapled one part of the ticket to solidify the back. Now I am not sad at all I don't print on cardboard. If I had a bunch of resources I would scan the ticket in and use a picture on the fold, but for now, this works well.



I enjoy the look.

the freedom bar ads

My friend Mirza Alas and I made this amazing product identity. Freedom bar! Who would not want that? This is a series of 3 one page ads for a magazine.

Obviously, these are vector illustrations. I still have to figure out how to better post them online, as the quality is not too great in the jpg file... Well, that's the next project to get to. Until then, this is what we have to live with. :)

I am thinking about spending some time in updating my self portrait. I wonder what I would do today. Maybe I should make this an annual process where I analyze my changes through typo-portraits.

The Busfare Knit pencil case

Newest finished product from The Busfare Knits. This pencil case brightens one's day with cute flower pattern fabric on the inside. It was entirely made in transit, and the price of it reflects the ticket fares I spent during the production.
